He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3
The ministry of Deeper Still originated in Knoxville, Tennessee over ten years ago (www.deeperstill.org). The DFW Chapter of Deeper Still began in February, 2019 after Donna Skomer, founding director, read Karen Ellison's book, Healing the Hurt that Won't Heal. She then attended a Deeper Still retreat in Tennessee in July, 2019 and even though she had received significant healing from her past abortion, God met her in the place where she needed to be met which was a life changing moment for her. After that weekend she knew the Lord was asking her to step out in faith and start a Deeper Still Chapter in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas.
In the middle of 2023, Donna decided to step down as director and Michelle Barber became the executive director. Michelle attended her own retreat in October of 2021, volunteered during several retreats including facilitating the retreat in March of 2023. Michelle has full support of the DFW chapter team and the calling from the Lord.
God is ready to lavish His love and mercy upon this broken world. Through our Deeper Still Retreats, we have come to realize the power of Christian women in community by reaching out to women who are still held captive by the guilt, shame and grief of their past mistakes. The body of Christ has been left on this earth to bring good news of salvation to the afflicted, to bind up the brokenhearted and to set the captive free.
We also recognize the immense need for the fathers of aborted children to receive healing and reconciliation from their role in abortion.
God chooses to use His people as the through-human method of His hands, His mouth and His heart. We who make up Deeper Still are simply saying “yes” to being part of God’s through-human method of healing and restoration.
Michelle has a heart to see women and men walk in their true identity in Christ.
